Principal Investigators
Dr. Anand Anbarasu is currently serving as a Professor in the Department of Biotechnology, School of Biosciences & Technology in Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, India. He is a double Master’s degree holder (M.Sc., in Medical Microbiology and M.Tech in Bioinformatics) and has a Ph.D. in Biotechnology. He completed his post-doctoral training in Fujirebio Inc. Tokyo, Japan. He has authored more than 160 peer-reviewed scientific publications which are published in reputed international journals. His field of expertise are in Infectious diseases and anti-microbial resistance mechanisms. He has guided more than 15 Ph.D. scholars and 65 post-graduate (M.Tech and M.Sc.). He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (UK). He has also been the editor and reviewer of books and reputed journals from leading publishers like Frontiers, Springer Nature, Elsevier and Taylor and Francis.

Dr. Sudha Ramaiah has a M.Sc. and M.Phil, in Biochemistry, and Ph.D. in Biosciences. She is currently serving as Professor in the Department of Biosciences, School of Biosciences & Technology in Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, India. She has guided more than 40 students of doctoral and post-graduate levels. She has also supervised multiple projects funded by ICMR and DST-SERB, Govt. of India. Her expertise is in the scientific fields of Bioinformatics, Cancer Informatics and Systems biology.

Dr. Tushar Joshi has received doctorate degree in Biotechnology from Kumaun University, Nainital, Uttarakhand, India. During his Ph.D., he has worked on drug discovery area using computational biology. Currently, he is working as an ICMR-Scientist-B in the Department of Biosciences, School of Biosciences & Technology in Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, India. His research area is to find novel therapeutic enhancers against antimicrobial resistance’s XDR pathogens.
Dr. Shalini Mathpal has received doctorate degree in Biotechnology from Kumaun University, Nainital, Uttarakhand, India. Currently, she is working as an ICMR-Research Scientist-I in the Department of Biosciences, School of Biosciences & Technology in Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, India. Her research focuses on finding therapeutic agents against multi-drug resistant ESKAPE pathogens, employing molecular characterization, systems biology, and structural biology approaches.

Preethi A R
Teaching cum Research Assistant
Ms. Preethi A R has completed M.Tech Bio-pharmaceutical Technology from Anna University, Chennai. She has two-and-a-half years of research experience from Indian Council of Medical Research-National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (ICMR-NIRT), Chennai. Her area of research interest lies in working with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb)– the causative agent of tuberculosis. Her present research focuses on screening and exploring inhibitors, targeting enzymes present in Mtb responsible for biosynthesis of biomolecules contributing to persistence of Mtb.

Suvitha Anbarasu

Ms. Suvitha Anbarasu, is a GATE qualified M.Tech., Biotechnology graduate from Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Erode and holds the title “The rising youth Icon 2020” from Nehru Yuva Kendra Sagathan (NYKS), Government of India. She has research experience in immunoinformatics, bioinformatics (Systems biology and Structural biology) and Bio-instrument designing. Her current doctoral research interests are on Cancer informatics and Rational drug designing for hormone associated/sensitive cancers.

Soumyadip Ghosh

Mr. Soumyadip has completed Master’s in Microbiology from Tripura Central University. He has qualified AICE ICAR-JRF 2020 Exam with an AIR of 28 in Microbiology and GATE in Life Science. He has 2 years of research experience from the National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB), Hyderabad, and Malviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur, India. At MNIT, he worked as a JRF on a DST-WTI project on wastewater treatment using an anaerobic fluidized bed membrane bioreactor. Currently, his Ph.D. research focuses on In-silico approaches to combat a fluoroquinolone resistance mechanisms in clinically relevant bacterial pathogens causing enteric diseases.

Avani Panickar

Ms. Avani Panickar holds a post-graduate degree in Bioinformatics from Amrita School of Biotechnology, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. Her current focus lies in the intersection of genomics and structural biology, with a particular emphasis on addressing Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in the context of upper respiratory infections.

Rhitam Biswas

Mr. Rhitam Biswas, is a GATE qualified MSc. Applied Microbiology (Gold Medalist) graduate from Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore. He has hands-on experience in various wet lab biomolecular techniques which he has gained as an intern in National Centre for Microbial Resource (NCMR), Pune. Currently, his research work focuses on structural bioinformatics approaches to study anti-microbial resistant mechanisms in ESKAPE pathogens and propose potent therapeutic agents.

Srujal Kacha

Ms. Srujal Kacha has done M.Sc. in Applied Microbiology from Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore. Currently, she is pursuing her research studies focused upon antimicrobial resistance and antibiotic combination treatments against multi-drug resistant pathogens.

Ms. Sara Pearl is a GATE-qualified M.Sc. Biotechnology graduate from Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore. Currently, her research focuses on combating antimicrobial resistance in nosocomial bacterial pathogens using computational strategies in omics and structural bioinformatics.

Elizabeth Annie George

Ms. Elizabeth Annie George is a GATE qualified M.Sc. Microbiology graduate who secured third rank in her Master’s degree from St. Berchmans College, Changanacherry, Kerala. With a year of research experience at the Pushpagiri Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Center in Tiruvalla, Kerala, she has developed a robust foundation in clinical microbiology and bioinformatics. Currently, her Ph.D. research aims to develop novel therapeutic strategies by integrating genomics, machine learning, quantum chemicals and structural bioinformatics to combat antimicrobial resistance among clinically significant pathogens. Her work seeks to enhance the understanding and treatment of these critical pathogens, addressing one of the most urgent challenges in modern medicine.

Ms. Romita Guchhait

Ms. Romita Guchhait, is a GATE qualified Msc. Biotechnology graduate from Vellore Institute of Technology. She has gained wet-lab experience in Nano-Biotechnology during her dissertation from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB). Her PhD research work focuses on combating Antimicrobial Resistance of clinically significant pathogens through In-silico approaches.
